NASA's Solar Dynamic Observatory captured two giant explosions on the sun, one after the other, on Nov. 16, 2012.
The eruptions, which happened over a 4-hour period, were so large, "it expanded beyond the camera view" of NASA's spacecraft, says Space.com.
This blast of super-hot plasma was not headed toward Earth. When a massive cloud of charged particles does collide with our planet, however, it may interrupt power supplies or set up a beautifuldisplay of the Aurora Borealis.
