In October 2015, researchers at Pennsylvania State University discovered that the light emanating from a distant, sun-like star called KIC 8462852 — also known as Tabby's star — was fluctuating in a peculiar way that they could not explain. Since then, astronomers have tried to rule out aliens as the cause of the strange light fluctuations, but so far, they haven't been able to.
