In 2010, the Eyjafjallajökull volcanoin Iceland erupted. The resulting cloud of ash and sulfur dioxide caused 20 countries to close their airspace for six days, stranding thousands of people across Europe. But thanks to NASA's latest technological innovation, those disruptions may soon be a thing of the past.
