The European Southern Observatory is building an enormous new telescope high in the Atacama Desert in Chile. Even though the location is on the other side of the planet from Europe, the location offers some of the best views of space on Earth. When finished, this new telescope will allow astronomers to gaze at Earth-sized planets in far off solar systems and aid the search for life beyond our world.
